Memory of a part of my childhood

When the Second World War began, I was two years old. As part of the war, Japan invaded China. Japanese soldiers bombed Chinese cities and a lot of Chinese common people were killed by the Japanese army. Our family couldn't stay in the city. We escaped from the city to another place where the Japanese soldiers hadn't come. But the Japanese army ran faster than us. So we still were controlled by the Japanese army. At that time, whenever people passed through the city gate they had to show obedience to the Japanese soldiers and the soldiers checked the passengers for food and weapons which they weren't allowed to have. The people were very afraid of the Japanese army. If a child was misbehaving or crying, their parents would say, "The Japanese are coming." The child would stop immediately. During the Japanese occupation, I saw my neighbor get stabbed more than ten times by a Japanese soldier. When the soldiers left his son found him among those who were already dead. He was in a coma and bleeding severely.
During the Chinese-Japanese war, many many Chinese families lost property and lives. I was no exception. Our house was bombed and I lost three relatives. One was myuncle. He died under the big heavy cutting table.
